Now we have turned over the Calendar to February, it’s time to start thinking about some upcoming events. But, first of all, please go onto the MSQ Home Page and renew your membership if you haven't already done so! You won’t be able to swim for us at all if you haven’t paid up for 2021. Remember, if you didn’t receive your free t-shirt last year, you are still entitled to it when you sign up again! Of course, this applies to our competitive swimmers and also our ‘fun & fitness’ swimmers. The only competitive event listed so far for entering online is the Mackay Sinkers Meet on 27 Feb. The Hervey Bay Meet has been changed to a Postal event, so the next event we want you to get excited about is the State Championships at Kawana on 9th – 11th April! It’s too early to register, but you can download the Meet Flyer and the Meet Details and start planning your program. (Continue down the MSQ Homepage to ‘Upcoming events!) The Relay Events are fun! We are already looking at breaking some records in the Relay Events, so, we hope you will take this into account in planning your program. We are able to enter more than one team in each relay event, and each team will score points for the club! Alan is looking after the relays, and would like an early indication from you about which ones you’d like to enter.
Please complete this online form (https://forms.gle/LQp2rRkyn7QnwJE38) and let us know what relays you would like to enter. The Relay Events are at the end of the program on Day 1 and Day 3. The Medley Relays are 4x50 metres, the Freestyle ones are 4x100m and 4x50m.
Accommodation (Please indicate to us if you are looking to share a room.) We have previously sent information about accommodation. Our first preference was the 'Beachside Resort' at Buddina. They have the best cancellation policy (you can use the deposit later in the year). MSQ have some suggestions on their Webpage too. Then, for a long-awaited trip to the tropics, there is the Barrier Reef Masters Games (20th to 22nd May for the swimming) This is more than a swim meet! If you have other skills, check the list of participating sports. For the swimmers, however, you will once again find the Meet Details and the Meet Program on the MSQ Website. So, start thinking about your events, your relays and your accommodation. This time we favoured ‘The Lakes Resort’ which is close to the pool, because they were very helpful when we had to cancel last year. However, MSQ have other recommendations on their webpage. (The Salters may have a spare room available.) Endurance Swimming After a year off (for Covid), we are once again able to enter the Vorgee E1000 Endurance Competition. Full details are available on the Masters Swimming Australia Webpage. Miami has a strong tradition in this event, so please try to get involved. It is the perfect way to increase your fitness and stamina over longer distances! Come along this Friday morning at 11am or the 1st Sunday of the month (That is next Sunday) at 11.30am, or at Nerang Pool on the third Sunday of the month at 8am! At any of these sessions you will find helpful volunteers happy to show you the ropes, and to time your swims. Thanks very much! Lindy
