Endurance – There may still be some of you who don’t understand the Endurance Program. This is how MSA describe it: 'The Endurance 1000 is a program for swimmers who want to improve their fitness and endurance. It is used to promote aerobic fitness by providing an incentive (in the form of points) for members to swim longer distances and more often. Recognition is given to the aerobic fitness aspect of swimming, as points are awarded according to relative degrees of fitness.' The important thing is that it is an inter-club competition, but you are swimming on your own, and at your own pace – times don’t matter! All the points are collated and go towards a grand total for our Miami club at the end of the year. In the recent past, Noosa has had the best results, and won the competition. Now, you don’t want that to continue, do you? We also give an amazing Club trophy to our best performer each year! Now, rather than trying to explain how it works, I’ll walk you through where you can find the information on the Masters Swimming Australia website:
Go to mastersswimming.org.au
See the menu on the right – click on ‘Vorgee Endurance Swimming’
Choose ‘Vorgee E1000’; Go down to ‘E1000 Information’ READ THIS PAGE, then click on ‘Endurance 1000 Manual'. This will give you all the information about the Program, the Points system and the Rules.
Now, all you need to do endurance swims is a timekeeper (who is a member of a Masters swimming club), two watches, and a results sheet.
BUT, the easiest way is to come to any of our special Endurance sessions and our volunteers will do everything for you (except your swim!)
Times: Miami Pool: 11am Fridays and 1st Sunday of the month at 11.30am Nerang Pool: 3rd Sunday of the month at 7:30am We look forward to seeing you there! Upcoming Events (If you haven’t ever competed before, please note: No watches or jewellery to be worn; and NO zippers in costumes!) Palm Beach - 21 March We are hoping to have a good representation at the 'MSQ Preparation Meet'. This is being held just down the road at the Palm Beach Aquatic Centre, on 21st March, beginning at 12.00 noon. The program is not out yet, but watch the MSQ Webpage as details are coming soon! This will be a great opportunity for us all to get an idea of our fitness in readiness for the State Championships at Kawana in April The organiser is our former Vice President, John Munro. Palm Beach is a new club, so it's quite a challenge for their small group. So, please come if you can! Non-swimmers would also be very welcome to assist as volunteers. If you know you have skills in any aspect of running a meet, John would love to hear from you. It’s a Sunday afternoon, so just call John on 0407 595 177 and let him know what you could do to help – even an hour would be great! State Championships at Kawana on the Sunshine Coast, 9-11th April. Remember to let Wendy know if you are likely to be coming, so we can start working on relay teams. The relays come at the end of the day, and are always a lot of fun! 'Beachside Resort' at Buddina Beach looks good for accommodation! Relays are Fun: If you are planning to swim at the State Championships, could you please complete this online form (https://forms.gle/xVw3CZc2P4cJS5we8) and let us know what relays you would like to enter. The relay events are at the end of the program on Day 1 and Day 3. The Medley Relays are 4 x 50 metres and the Freestyle ones are 4 x 50 metres and 4 x 100 metres. Then there is the Great Barrier Reef Games in Cairns from 20th to 22nd May. We have a small contingent already expressing an interest in a relaxing few days in Cairns. With this event, too, we would like to try to put in some relay teams. So, think about helping out the Tourism Industry as well as your club, and join us for a fun time in Cairns. Information has already gone out about accommodation – our recommendation was 'The Lakes Resort'! Watch for airline specials! Thanks Lindy
